Custom web development for the systems your business actually runs on.

Bespoke web applications, client portals, configurators, integrations and data tools, built on WordPress and PHP by the team that also hosts, secures and maintains them. When the software you need doesn’t exist, or exists but doesn’t fit, we build it.

What custom development means here

Software shaped to the business, not the other way round

Most companies run on a patchwork: a website, a spreadsheet that has become a database, a form tool, an accounts package and someone re-typing between them. Custom web development is the work of replacing that patchwork with something built for the job.

We build on WordPress because it gives clients an admin they already know, a huge ecosystem to lean on where it fits, and a platform we can host, secure and maintain ourselves. Everything that does not fit we write: custom database tables, REST endpoints, background jobs, front-end applications, PDF generation, payment flows and the integrations that stitch it all together.

Built to your process. We map how the work actually happens before choosing any tool, then build around it.

Owned by you. Custom code is yours; we document it and hand it over in full.

Hosted and looked after. The same team that builds it runs it, so there is no hand-off gap.

What we build

Six kinds of system, one team

Most projects combine two or three of these. The examples further down show how they fit together in real businesses.

01

Client portals and dashboards

Secure areas where customers, staff or field teams log in to see the records, files and reports that matter to them, with roles, permissions and audit trails.

02

Ecommerce beyond the basics

Custom product types, pricing engines, enquiry flows, shipping logic, competition and subscription models, built natively into WooCommerce rather than bolted on.

03

Integrations and APIs

Your site talking to CRMs, accounts, supplier feeds, government data and courier systems, both ways, with retries, logging and caching so it keeps working when a third party does not.

04

Configurators and builders

Interactive tools that let a customer design the product on screen and hand a manufacturing-ready specification to your order, from number plates to vehicle layouts.

05

Data products and directories

Large datasets made searchable and fast, generated landing pages that rank for long-tail searches, paid directories and marketplaces with real revenue models.

06

Automation and AI tooling

Background jobs, document generation, scheduled publishing and AI-assisted content or editing, with approval steps and guard-rails so nothing goes out unchecked.

Selected work

Systems we have built and that businesses now run on

Clients anonymised, problems and solutions as they were. Several of these process real money and real customers every day.

Industrial services

An inspection reporting portal with client dashboards

An inspection company was running its reporting through forms, spreadsheets and email. Inspectors needed to work on site, sometimes offline; clients needed their reports, floor plans and history in one place.

A portal that turns form submissions into structured inspection records per company and site: an areas editor and floor-plan tool, signature capture, offline drafts that sync, branded PDF report generation, a private file library with previews and download permissions, client onboarding, and front-end dashboards for inspectors, managers and clients.

  • Inspectors work offline and sync later
  • Branded PDF reports generated automatically
  • Per-client dashboards with history and files
  • Bulk import of years of legacy records
Automotive retail

A private number plate search and checkout platform

A registration retailer needed customers to search tens of millions of DVLA registrations, see live pricing and buy or gift a plate in one flow, with the legal paperwork handled behind the scenes.

A search API and database layer holding 72 million records, live vehicle lookups, a pricing engine with service fees and transfer charges, gift and express checkout, and a pre-owned marketplace, all inside WooCommerce with branded transactional emails.

  • 72-million-record search that answers in milliseconds
  • DVLA fee, VAT and transfer handling built into checkout
  • Gift purchases and express checkout without leaving the page
  • Customer account area for transfers and documents
Prize competitions

A provably fair competition and prize-draw engine

A competition business needed to sell tickets at volume - thousands in minutes - with instant wins, site credit and draws that customers could verify, without relying on a third-party plugin that could vanish.

A WooCommerce competition product type with its own database schema: pre-generated, cryptographically shuffled ticket pools; atomic allocation that is safe under concurrent purchases and payment webhooks; per-customer limits enforced at cart and allocation; instant wins, wallet credits, audit logging and provably fair draws.

  • Atomic ticket allocation safe under heavy concurrent load
  • Instant wins and site credit wallets
  • Provably fair draws customers can check
  • Full audit trail for compliance
Professional services

A paid directory of engineers and consultancies

A publisher wanted a directory that paid for itself: listings businesses would buy, upgrade and keep renewing, with real leads to show for it.

Tiered listings sold through WooCommerce memberships, claim-your-listing flows, verified badges, featured placements, lead capture with notifications, reviews, faceted search and an analytics view so each listing can see the enquiries it generates.

  • Listings as WooCommerce subscriptions
  • Verified badges and featured slots as upsells
  • Lead tracking every listing owner can see
  • Import tooling for the existing database
Finance media

A cryptocurrency data hub with live dashboards

A publisher needed rich, fast coin pages and dashboards fed by market data, without paying for a single expensive provider or falling over when one API had an outage.

A multi-provider data layer that pulls from several market APIs with fallbacks and caching, scheduled refreshes, a coin post type with generated detail pages, rich-list and market dashboards, and a few interactive extras for engagement.

  • Several data providers behind one interface
  • Cached and scheduled, so pages stay fast
  • Hundreds of coin pages generated and kept current
  • Survives a provider outage without breaking
Vehicle conversions

A drag-and-drop campervan layout designer

A luxury campervan converter wanted customers to plan their own layout on the van models they build, and to bring that plan to the first conversation.

An interactive floor-plan designer with drag-and-drop furniture, per-model van outlines, a day and night mode to show beds and seating, and a shareable result the sales team can open.

  • Accurate outlines per van model
  • Day and night layouts in one design
  • Shareable plans that start the sales conversation
  • Runs on any page via a shortcode

How we work

From a conversation to a system you rely on

The process is deliberately plain: understand the job, agree the scope in writing, build in stages you can see, then run it.

01

Discovery

We sit with the people who do the work and map the real process, the data and the edge cases, before a line of code.

02

Scope and fixed quote

A written scope in plain English with a fixed price and a timeline. Change it later and we re-quote the change, not the project.

03

Build in stages

Working software early, reviewed on a staging site, with the riskiest parts (payments, imports, integrations) proven first.

04

Launch, host, maintain

We deploy, monitor and maintain it on our own infrastructure, with backups, security and a person to call.

05

Documented and yours

Code, database schema and admin guides handed over; you are never dependent on us to understand your own system.

06

Iterate

Most systems grow. A monthly care plan covers small changes; bigger phases are scoped and quoted the same way.

Under the hood

Proven, boring technology, used well

PHP 8 and WordPress as the platform, MySQL with custom schemas where the job needs them, REST and background job queues, WooCommerce and Gravity Forms where they earn their place, modern JavaScript on the front end, and the same hosting stack we run for every client. Boring is a compliment: it means your system will still be maintainable in five years.

How custom development is priced

Scoped in plain English, quoted fixed

Every bespoke build is quoted from your brief and tailored to your budget: you tell us the job, we tell you the price, fixed in writing before we start.

Where it starts

£1,500 + VAT
Bespoke design and build starts here and is quoted fixed from your brief. The figure moves with the scale of the job, not a package: a focused brochure site sits near the start, a platform with integrations costs more.

What moves the price

  • Number of pages and how different they are
  • Ecommerce, booking or member areas
  • Integrations with the systems you already use
  • Content: written by us or supplied by you
  • Timescale

Fixed quote, in writing

Within 2 working days
Send us a brief, or talk it through on the phone, and you get a written fixed price with the scope in plain English. That is the number you pay. Quotes are free and valid for 30 days.

Straight answers

Custom web development, answered

Why build on WordPress rather than a framework?

Because your team already knows the admin, the ecosystem covers the commodity parts (users, media, forms, payments) so budget goes on what is unique, and we can host and maintain it properly. Where WordPress would fight the job we say so; some of our work is standalone PHP applications that share a login with the site.

Can you take over a system someone else built?

Usually, yes. We start with a review: what it does, what state the code is in, what it costs to keep. Sometimes the answer is to stabilise and extend it; sometimes a rebuild is cheaper than another year of patching. You get that assessment in writing either way.

How much does custom web development cost?

Projects start at £1,500 + VAT and are quoted fixed from a written scope. A portal or platform with integrations is a different size of job to a single configurator, so we price the job rather than a package, and the quote is the number you pay.

Who owns the code?

You do. Custom code written for your project is yours, documented and handed over. The only exceptions are our own reusable products, which are licensed to you rather than sold, and we tell you which is which up front.

Do you host and maintain what you build?

Yes, and we would rather. Systems that process orders, generate documents or talk to third-party APIs need monitoring, updates and someone who understands them. Our care plans cover that, and small changes with it.

How long does a build take?

A configurator or integration is typically a few weeks; a portal or platform two to four months, delivered in stages you can use as they land. Timelines go in the scope alongside the price.
